BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 

Allyson Story | Co-Chair

Allyson lives in Sandy Hook with her husband and two children. Allyson is an alumni of Newtown Public Schools. Allyson is currently working as an Assistant Principal in a New Fairfield,CT. Prior to that she was a third grade teacher and a Math Specialist. Allyson has her Masters degree in Curriculum Design and Assessment from Western Connecticut State University, and most recently a second Masters degree in Educational Leadership. Allyson is an active member of the community. She has served a the Chair for NEF for the past two years. She has also served as the President of the Board of Directors for her children’s child care center, Merryhill Child Care. When she’s not working she enjoys spending time with her family and traveling. Allyson is honored to be able to support the Newtown Community. 

 

Karyn Holden | Vice Chairperson

Karyn, her husband John, and their two children have resided in Sandy Hook for sixteen years.  Karyn enjoys volunteering at her children’s schools and is the Advocacy Chair and second vice president of the Sandy Hook School PTA. For the past 19 years, Karyn has worked for a large financial services company, where she is currently a Product Manager.  Her personal philosophy is “Be happy, and surround yourself with happy people.” When not working or volunteering, Karyn enjoys spending time with her family and friends.   

 

Jamie Pacuk Co- Chair

Jamie has been teaching for the past twelve years in Westport, CT and has worked at both the middle and high school. Jamie holds a bachelor’s degree in English from WestConn, a masters in Education from Fairfield U, and an Administrator Certificate from Sacred Heart. She has been a TEAM mentor for new teachers for the past seven years and has also served on multiple committees designed to help improve student experiences and support student success. When she is not teaching, her time is spent playing with her two boys, helping her husband Jeff coach their baseball teams, and going to CrossFit. Jamie and her family have lived in Sandy Hook for the past five years, and love being a part of this amazing community.

 

Kara Tanner - Vice Chair

Kara Tanner is a long-time resident of Newtown and grew up attending Newtown Public Schools.  Together with her husband, James, she has two children who will one day attend the Newtown Public Schools.  Professionally, Kara is a literacy coach in an elementary school in Ridgefield.  She is an advocate for children and believes that all students should have access to the materials needed for enhanced learning opportunities.  In being a part of the Newtown Education Foundation, Kara hopes to give back to the school community.  

Ryan Ragan - Treasurer

Ryan and his family have been enjoying the Newtown community since 2005. He has been an educator in the New Fairfield school district for over 12 years. Ryan has taught third and fourth grade and currently is a math interventionist. He holds a Bachelors in Business from Western Connecticut State University and a Masters in Teaching from Sacred Heart University. During the summer you will find Ryan and his family traveling and enjoying different parts of the country.

Laura Tashjian - Secretary

Laura is the Manager of Organizational Development and Employee Engagement at a local community bank and resides in Sandy Hook with her husband Chuck and 3 children.  She has been an active member of the community during her 15 years of residence.  She served as a Board Member of the Women’s Center of Greater Danbury, volunteers at her children’s schools, chairs various PTA committees, and is the educational liaison between her organization and Newtown High School in providing Financial Literacy opportunities to the students.  Laura holds a Bachelors in Psychology from Western CT State University and a Masters in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Fairfield University.

 Michael O’Connor

Mike has spent the past 20 years leveraging technology to drive innovation in many of the worlds leading Life Sciences companies, both as a consultant and in house. He is currently at Prozio Life Sciences where he is the Chief Technology Officer. Mike holds a Bachelors in Computer Science from WCSU as well as a Masters in Technology Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Mike has been living in Newtown, along with his wife and three young children, for several years. In his spare time, Mike enjoys Competitive Athletics, Skiing, Hiking, and traveling the world. Mike is thrilled to be a part of a foundation that is helping to introduce new, STEAM focused, opportunities to the children of Newtown.

 

Corina Place

Corina has been a scientist working for pharmaceutical companies, most recently with Boehringer Ingelheim. She was a double major at the University of New Haven and holds a Bachelors of Science in Forensic Science as well as Biology.  When not working, she enjoys participating in Crossfit, having fun with family and friends, and watching her son play sports. Corina has been living in Newtown with her husband and their two children for five years. 

 

David Rosvally

David is a lifelong resident of Newtown. He has been a STEM/STEAM teacher in Weston Public Schools for fourteen years. David has two children in Middle Gate School. He also coaches Basketball and Baseball in Newtown. 

 

Kinga Walsh

With her husband Glenn and four children, Kinga has been a 16+ year resident of Newtown/Sandy Hook.  Kinga has actively volunteered with many aspects of the town from district budgets to PTA/PTSA to the community center conceptualization.  She holds a BA in Marketing from Manhattanville College and previously worked in advertising, PR, marketing as a Senior Account Manager.
